AUDITIONS

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

AUDITIONS FOR THE 2021 SEASON HAVE CLOSED

Please check back soon for 2022 audition information.

WHAT TO EXPECT/WHAT TO WEAR

Auditions will be held in the Chaine studio. Students are encouraged to warm up/leave personal items in the Fouette studio prior to their audition (since dressing areas remain closed). All students must enter the audition room warm, prepared and ready to go.

2021 auditions will include 30 minutes of ballet, contemporary and jazz dance with Mimi McKinnis (Director, FYDC) and 30 minutes of improv/acting with Sarah Hirleman (2021 Guest Faculty). If you/your student is interested in auditioning for a role with minimal dance, it is only necessary to attend the acting/improv portion of the audition (the last 30 minutes).

Dancers age 14+ who have not previously been a member of FYDC must perform a prepared variation during the audition process. If a student is a returning member of the company and wishes to showcase additional skills not listed above (pointe, acro, modern, special skills, etc.), those students are encouraged to perform a variation as well. Variations should not exceed 3 minutes in length. Variations will be performed for Mimi McKinnis (Director, FYDC) and Tina Cook (Owner, Turning Pointe Dance).

Students should dress as they would for ballet class.

WHAT TO BRING

There will be a $20 audition fee, which will cover registration and class costs. All students must complete a registration form (linked above). New students must provide a headshot and a photo in first arabesque.

If a student is interested in joining the company but is unable to attend either of the audition dates, please contact fideleyouthdancecompany@gmail.com prior to the second audition date to make alternate arrangements.

STUDENT DIRECTORIAL TEAM (SENIOR CO.)

New this season, members of Senior Company will have the chance to audition for the student directorial team. This team will be responsible for creating a 5(ish) minute pre-show video that will set the tone for each live performance and video stream.

A word/theme will be announced approximately one month prior to each audition date (a different theme will be chosen for each audition date to maintain a level playing field). Prospective members of Senior Company who would like to be considered for the student directorial team will create and choreograph their audition variation based on the applicable theme. Before you perform your variation, the FYDC audition team will ask the student about their process and interpretation of the theme. It is only necessary to perform ONE variation.
