What to Expect

And What to Wear

Students need only attend one audition day (Spring or Summer). An electronic sign-up sheet will be available one month prior to the applicable audition date. 2023 casting and prayer groups  will be announced Sunday, June 4

Auditions will be held in the Chaine studio. Students are encouraged to warm up in the Pirouette studio (Apprentice Co.) or Soutenu studio (Senior Co.) and enter the audition room warm, prepared and ready to go. Auditions will consist of a 15 minute welcome and prayer, 45 minutes of  dance and 45 minutes of acting/performance exercises.

Dancers age 14+ who have not previously been a member of FYDC must perform a prepared variation during the audition process. If a student is a returning member of the company and wishes to showcase additional skills (pointe, acro, modern, special skills, etc.), those students are encouraged to perform a variation as well. Variations should not exceed 3 minutes in length.

All auditioning students should dress as they would for a classical ballet class, and must have their costume measurements taken in the warmup studio before or after their audition time.

What to Bring

There will be a $20 audition fee, which will cover registration and class costs. All students must complete and turn in an audition form. New students must provide a headshot and a photo in first arabesque.

If a student is interested in joining the company but is unable to attend either of the audition dates, please contact prior to the second audition date to make alternate arrangements.

Student Directorial Team

Students age 14 and older

Prospective members of Senior Company will have the chance to audition for the student directorial team. This team will be responsible for creating a short pre-show video that will set the tone for each live performance and video stream.

A word/theme will be announced approximately one month prior to each audition date (a different theme will be chosen for each audition date to maintain a level playing field).

Students who would like to be considered for the student directorial team will create their audition variation based on the applicable theme. Before performing the variation, the FYDC audition team will ask the student about their process, interpretation and application of the theme.
