Good afternoon!
Today we got to travel to three different schools!
Mallory’s Heart English School was our first destination. They have about 30 students there, all learning English. We were asked to help them practice their English conversations, and told not speak any Spanish. Adrianne and I visited three tables of students together. Each table asked us similar questions like what our hobbies are, our favorite foods and drinks, travel ideas, and about our family and pets. Then we got to give each student our bracelets and Lamplighter books (with some extras for the library, for their kids/grandkids, and for the students who were absent today!).
Liceo Cristiano Saulo de Tarso was our second stop of the day. It was a traditional public school with more than 500 students. What made this time special was that we got to perform specifically for their all-girls classes, all young women, all classes from age 8 to 18. After we performed, the principal took pictures of us with all the different grades before the other students from the school joined us for bracelets and story-writing time with our missionary packets from Amanda. We actually ran out of bracelets! We got to play volleyball together with the school kids and our team members. (“Como dices ‘air ball?’”) We ate lunch, and then got on the bus and headed to the next school.
Liceo Cristiano Reverendo Juan Bueno was our final destination, and we preformed in their beautiful sanctuary. They were so patient while we were getting the sound system to work! We performed for about 300 students, but there are around 1,300 at that particular school (who will get to read the books/letters we left for the program!).
Pastor Paul, who coordinated a lot of our school visits, mentioned how we remind him of sunflowers… they point to the sun, and our art points to God. It touched my heart because I remembered that sunflowers do follow the sun, but when there is not sun around, they look to each other. And that’s really how we’ve supported each other as a team on this trip, and how we bounce the light to each other, like they did to Mrs. Finchley in “The Lamplighter.”
It was so cool to see how everyone lit up when they got a book and/or a bracelet. It showed me that happiness is not something that takes a lot of effort. When it comes from the heart, even a simple smile and sunflower can brighten anyone's day!
Until the next time,
Meagan
Hola!
Today was day three in El Salvador, and we witnessed God’s goodness in so many ways!
It all started this morning at breakfast when a kind woman saw my Fidèle t-shirt and asked about our Bible verse. After I told her, she explained that God was really speaking to her through that and it was a blessing for me to be a part of God’s work in such a simple way.
After that sweet conversation, we headed to Mallory’s Heart English School, where we helped the students practice and prayed over them. I met so many sweet people and got to hear all of their unique stories. Two girls I met told me about their life and their families, and it was precious to know their hearts more. After giving our books and our bracelets, and saying our goodbyes, we were on our way to Liceo Cristiano Saulo de Tarso!
Warm smiles welcomed us and kind hearts made us feel at home as soon as we got there. We performed our dance and then were blessed with the opportunity to go out and meet all the kids. We spent precious time learning their names, playing games, praying together, writing stories, playing music, drawing pictures, dancing, and soaking up all the gifts the Holy Spirt was putting before us.
I spoke with Maria, who has the brightest smile and a beautiful story. Her love for God was inspiring, and her heart was so full of joy for the Lord. I prayed over her (and others) and left filled with joy. MANY bracelets were given out, and even more hugs were held before we went to Liceo Cristiano Reverendo Juan Bueno.
Dancing for all the students there was priceless, but my favorite part is always seeing how God is touching each one of their hearts. It was so powerful watching how their reactions told their stories, and it was evident that seeds were being planted. Pastor Paul sent us with the phrase, “you are sunflowers for God.” If we turn to the Son, he provides! Today demonstrated the outpouring love of God in each one of His kids, and I will cherish these connections forever!
Thank you for all your prayers!
Until next time,
Allie
