Serving Our State

Hi, everyone!

We had an amazing time with Family Arts Night at Inspiration View Elementary School at the beginning of May. Our team got to perform the “So Will I (100 Billion X)” dance from our gospel production (this time the instrumental version) for three groups of kids and and their families. Then we got to lead a short dance class for each group. It was amazing to see how excited the kids were, and how quickly they picked up on our dance steps! It was really incredible to see that, even though it was an explicitly “missions” event, and even though we couldn’t play worship music with words, God still worked through our team and in the students we were reaching through the joy of dance.

Signing off,

In addition to serving the elementary school families in the city’s D49 school district, this spring our team also had the privilege of performing the season’s gospel production alongside a day-long worship dance workshop in Vail, Colorado. Nearly 30 children attended the workshop, where they learned how to worship God through dance. The event was hosted and sponsored by The Vail Church, whose dancing members have traveled to Colorado Springs to attend FYDC’s annual productions, and Turning Pointe Dance’s annual “Ignite” summer intensive.

Much like Family Arts Night, at first glance, a mountain town known for its world-famous ski resort may not look like a traditional “missions” spot. But according to the latest City-Data and Census information, the Vail Valley not only sees higher crime rates than currently in San Salvador, it also boasts a Christian population of less than 5%, with nearly 70% claiming no religion at all. To travel to TVC’s neck of the woods, and bring with us a safe space to glorify God with dancing, was truly a blessing beyond words.
